Back in 2003, Brother Tanner gave an amazing address to graduating Humanities students that was essentially a home-run commentary on D&C 117: 13. I've reviewed it tonight while preparing my talk for tomorrow's sacrament meeting, and I thought I would share the link so you could read it in full should you choose.

ReplyDeleteI am so thankful that the Lord looks on the heart and not the outward appearance of man. However flawed and imperfect my performances are...(which they are) I give it my all anyway, all my heart, mind and soul, and He says, "well done thou good and faithful servant."
I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me...
I really like the what Brother Tanner says here, "They win some battles and lose some, as do we all. What ultimately matters is valor, not victory."
This makes me think of an olimpian who finnished last in a race. The dialog went something like this..
reporter questioned the athlete: "how do you feel to come all this way to race and you finnished last... are you disapointed?"
the athlete replied: "I did not come all this way to win the race, I came to do my best.. I came to finnish the race."
